Organization
Refers to the name of the Company/Group as known at a Global level. For example, Coca Cola has different subsidiaries around the globe, but they all belong to the same Group. The organizations are defined across the different airlines and not specific to one airline because a single supplier or caterer often deals with multiple airlines.
Organization Types
Organizations can belong to five different types depending on their supply chain role
• Airline
Can be created in one of the following categories
• Global Airline • Regional Airline • Low cost (No frills) Airline
• Supplier of Product
Refers to organizations delivering goods such as inflight equipment, wines, stationery, lounge equipment, manufacturers, etc. A supplier/vendor can be created in one of the following categories:
• Equipment Supplier • Software Supplier • Supplier of Food & Drinks • Wine Supplier
• Caterer/Service Provider
Refers to organizations delivering services to the aircraft or at an airport such as catering, laundry, trolleys refurbishment etc. A service provider can be created in one of the following categories:
• Airport Lounge • Cabin Cleaner/Groundhandler • Cargo • Caterer • Laundry • Passenger Service Unit • Refurbisher/Repairer
• 3rd Party Logistics Provider
Also known as 3PL (3rd party logistics provider), this type of organization provides transportation, distribution and warehouse services. A 3PL can be created in one of the following categories:
• Freight Forwarder • Multi Modal Global Logistics Provider • Shipping Line • Trucking Company • Warehouse Operator
• 4th Party Logistics Provider
Also known as 4PL, this type of organization has a higher level of visibility and control, acting as a "Control tower" to oversee the different actors in the supply chain. A 4PL can be created in one for the following categories:
• 4th Party Logistics Provider • Software Solutions Provider
The Organization Type is important and determines where and what that Organization can be used for. If you have an Organization that fits into two or more types you will need to create multiple Organization records - See example below for LSG, where there is an LSG acting as a caterer and an LSG acting as a Suppler of equipment. The Organization category doesn't really affect functionality and is only used for reporting/analysis purposes.
How to create / Update Organizations
Considering that organizations are common between airlines, the update / creation of organizations is a centralized activity that must be done by a Global Administrator. In order to create / update an organization, you will need to raise a support ticket in SkySuite, providing the global name, organization type and category.
